Open source, for real
Andarama is not a cut-down version with a cloud behind it: the andarama.com service and what you install yourself are the same program, published in full.
The licence: EUPL-1.2
Andarama is published under the European Union Public Licence (EUPL) 1.2, the European Commission's licence, with an official version in every EU language. It allows you to use, study, modify and redistribute the program, including for commercial purposes. Anyone who distributes a modified version, or offers it as a network service, must publish their changes under the same licence (or a compatible one).
The repository
Everything is at github.com/joseluissaorin/andarama: the API, the Studio, the viewer, the exporter, the panorama tiler, the data schema, the documentation and the deployments. Strict TypeScript, unit and end-to-end tests, and continuous integration with dependency audits. Issues and proposals are opened there.
Install it yourself
Three ways, the same program and no quotas:
- Desktop: an executable for macOS, Windows and Linux, with a double click (guide).
- Docker: Node and SQLite in one image, with one volume and one port (guide).
- Cloudflare: your own account, with one command that creates the resources and migrates the database (guide).
A self-hosted install has no plans and no limits other than those set by whoever runs it, and can use local accounts with two-step verification or institutional SSO via OIDC.
A format that does not expire
Tours are stored in tour.json, a documented and versioned format (reference). Exports (static ZIP, single HTML file, PWA) work with no Andarama behind them, on any hosting or from a USB stick.
What if Andarama shuts down?
It is the question that decides a public purchase, and it has an answer: the code would remain published and anyone could keep using, installing and maintaining it; exported tours would keep working, and the hosted service would give notice in good time so you can take everything with you. Nobody depends on us still being here.
Hosted or in-house
The andarama.com service adds what running a server requires: hosting, backups, updates, accounts with Clerk and the plans. If you would rather not maintain anything, it is there; if you would rather have it on your own infrastructure, that works too. For institutions we offer a self-hosted install with support: see procurement.
Shall we install it on your premises?
If your institution prefers to keep it on its own infrastructure, we deploy it with you and you contract support and updates.
